Steve Elgar says It's time for a
change.
Steve is different than
his opponent.
Honesty
and Openness in Government: Steve believes in open, honest
government. Steve opposes secret meetings, and will not attend closed-door
caucuses. Steve has nothing to hide, and he believes in full disclosure of
finances.
Steve's opponent attends secret
meetings. The opposition refused to vote to expel a corrupt senator (who's
dishonesty resulted in his resignation anyway). Instead, they voted to increase
the number of secret, closed meetings. This year, Steve's opponent met in
secret to discuss the budget and your tax dollars.
Votes on
Bills (bill numbers are in the tables below): Steve will vote differently than his
opponent on many bills.
- Unlike Anderson, Steve opposes property tax
breaks for Micron, tax breaks for Boise big business, and tax breaks for
Hollywood. It's time for tax breaks for middle-class Idahoans.
- Steve
opposes allowing phone bills to rise without PUC approval. Anderson voted to
raise your phone bill.
- Steve opposes price gouging. Anderson supported
special interests and voted against fines for gouging.
- Steve supports
clean air and clean water. Anderson voted against clean air and water bills,
while voting to reduce controls on deadly arsenic.
- Steve opposes
decreases in unemployment benefits. Anderson voted to reduce weekly benefits.
- Steve supports rural economic development. Anderson voted against
it.
- Steve supports higher education for all Idahoans. Anderson voted to
raise tuition and then voted against providing loans to needy Idaho students!
- Steve supports improving teaching and training teachers. Anderson voted
no.
- Steve will support police, while Anderson voted no on CHOICE funds
to help peace officer recruitment and training.
- Steve will vote to stop
drunk drivers, while Anderson voted for weaker fines for refusing a breath
test.
- Steve will vote against drugs and dangerous inhaled alcohol, while
Anderson voted with drug company lobbyists not to ban strong muscle relaxants,
and voted against banning inhaled booze.
